Davidson Family, 1550-1700

This early Davidson family group begins with Malcom Davison, known as Malcom of Dingwall, and continues through Nicholas Davison Sr. and his children in Lynn, England.

The line continues through James Davidson, William Davidson, and William's families with Elizabeth Waddell and Isabel Robertson.

William and Isabel's son William Davidson II married Hannah Warington about 1705. Their recorded children were Lewis Davidson, Mary Davidson, and Sarah Davidson.

Lewis Davidson married Comfort Warrington in 1746 and Elizabeth Claypoole Conwell in 1755. His recorded children include William, Lewis, Jeremiah, Robert, Elizabeth, Hannah, Thomas, and possibly Rachel Davidson.

A South Point history identifies Lewis's son William Davidson as William "Ranger" Davidson because of his Revolutionary War service in Pennsylvania's frontier rangers. The same account says he moved to South Point in 1798 and founded a frontier homestead there. A Greenfield Historical Society note traces a descendant line from William through Joseph William Davidson, Honathan Croley Davidson, Franklin E. Davidson, and Charlotte Davidson.

Find a Grave notes for Lewis's daughter Hannah Davidson McMechen record her marriage to Pvt. James McMechen, her 1780 move to Fort Henry, and her later burial on daughter Orpah McMechen Davidson's family farm in Vermillion County, Indiana. James's will named daughters Orphy, Ruth, Sally Williamson, Polly Williamson, and Jane.

Their son James Davidson married Mary Ayres about 1720 in Somerset County, Maryland. Their recorded children were William Davidson, born about 1720, and Ann Davidson.

William Davidson, son of James Davidson and Mary Ayres, married Sarah McCune about 1749 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Their recorded children were James Davidson, William Davidson, Elizabeth Davidson, and Margaret Davidson.

James Davidson, son of William Davidson and Sarah McCune, married Jane Hudson about 1770 in Pennsylvania.

Their recorded children included Sarah Davidson, Jane Davidson, and William Davidson, born February 14, 1783 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.

William Davidson married Huldah Thorp about 1810 and Sarah Rogers in 1813. His son George Hudson Davidson was born in 1811.

Sarah Rogers had previously married James Blackstone Jr.. An 1820 census extract for William Davidson's household identifies likely Blackstone children Eliza, Henry, and James Blackstone. Eliza married James Banning in 1825.

Huldah later married James Utellas Collins, and they had nine recorded children. Later chart notes add spouse and life details for several Collins children, including William Collins and Sarah Glendening, Mary Collins and Samuel Risinger, Eliza Collins and Isaac Munson, Jane Collins and Milton Dushane, and Joseph Collins and Mary Clemens.

George Hudson Davidson married Rachel Payne in 1837. The supplied notes name eleven of their fourteen children.

William Davidson and Sarah Rogers had five recorded children: Thomas R Davidson, an unnamed daughter Davidson, John R Davidson, Daniel Rogers Davidson, and Sarah Davidson.
