Lewis Davidson

Lewis Davidson is recorded as a child of William Davidson II and Hannah Warington. He was born in 1712 in Somerset County, Maryland and died November 16, 1793 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

A Greenfield Historical Society note says Lewis came from Sussex County, Delaware to Fayette County, Pennsylvania in 1765.

Lewis was the eldest child of William Davidson Jr. and Hannah Davidson. He was buried in Dunlap Cemetery in Brownsville, Pennsylvania.

The supplied notes list several land transfers made to and from Lewis Davidson:

• In 1731, Lewis was located in Sussex County, Delaware with his mother and sisters.
• In 1753, Lewis, with his sisters Mary and Sarah and Sarah's husband John Arderly, sold to Jacob Warrington the 179 acres that their mother Hannah had surveyed in 1731.
• In 1754, Lewis sold a farm to Comfort Houston in Sussex County, Delaware.
• On March 12, 1755, Lewis bought a farm from Yeates Conwell, with Elizabeth Titus as executrix, recorded in Deed Book No. 9.
• A later deed describes Lewis Davidson of Bedford County, Province of Pennsylvania, yeoman, and Isaac Draper, cooper, of Sussex County on Delaware, concerning seven acres with a house and orchard then in the possession of Boaz Manlove, where Lewis had formerly dwelt. Lewis had bought the land by absolute title from Jacob Stafford and Roseanns, his wife, after the decease of Jacob Stafford on February 9, 1758, recorded in Book L-No. 11.
• On June 29, 1767, Lewis had deeded to him a tract of land on the east side of the Monongahela River, in what is now Fayette County, Pennsylvania. The deed was recorded at Greensburg Court House.

Lewis operated the first ferry across the Monongahela River at Redstone, now Brownsville, in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

Lewis married first in 1746 to Comfort Warrington, daughter of William Warrington and Comfort Tilney. Comfort was born about 1716 and died circa 1749 in Sussex County, Delaware. Lewis and Comfort had two sons:

• William Davidson, who married first Rosanna Hutchinson and second Barbara McDole.
• Lewis Davidson, who married Nancy Todd.

Lewis married second in 1755 to Elizabeth Claypoole Conwell, widow of Thomas Conwell. Elizabeth was born in Sussex County, Delaware and died in Fayette County, Pennsylvania in 1794. She was buried in Dunlap Creek Cemetery. Lewis and Elizabeth had children recorded in the supplied notes:

• Jeremiah Davidson, who married Anne Alexander.
• Robert Davidson.
• Elizabeth Davidson, who married George James.
• Hannah Davidson, who married James McMechen.
• Thomas Davidson, who married Mary Stokely.
• Rachel Davidson, who married Samuel McKee. Rachel appears in an earlier supplied child list, while the later supplied image lists Robert instead.
