William Davidson was born about 1625 in Scotland and died about 1710 in Somerset County, Maryland.
He married Elizabeth Waddell about 1645 in Scotland. They had three known children: Ann Davidson, Jane Davidson, and David Davidson.
William emigrated from Scotland in 1649 with Elizabeth and their three children. He settled in Somerset County on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. According to tradition, they went from Scotland, where they were born, to Ireland, where they remained for a short time before coming to Maryland. Some records indicate there were more children from this marriage. More research is necessary on these children.
He later married Isabel Robertson in 1679 in Somerset County, Maryland. They had three known children: William Davidson II, James Davidson, and Robert Davidson.
The Harbaugh account says that in 1710 William went out to get firewood, expecting to be gone two or three hours, and was never seen or heard from again. Evidence was found the next day that the Indians had been in the woods and he had either been killed or carried away alive.
