James Davidson is thought in the Harbaugh account to have been a brother of William Davidson II, placing him as a possible child of William Davidson and Isabel Robertson.
He was born about 1685 in Somerset County, Maryland and died about 1744 in Sussex County, Delaware.
He married Mary Ayres about 1720 in Somerset County, Maryland.
The Calendar of Sussex County Delaware Probate Records, 1680-1800 records a copy of James Davidson's will made February 5, 1744-45. The will names his wife Mary Davidson, son William Davidson, daughter Ann Davidson, and executor son William Davidson. Witnesses were William McKelvy, Alexander Reed, and Thomas Hally. The probate entry is recorded in Archives volume A68, page 53, Register of Wills, Liber A, folios 359-361.
The Harbaugh account records that James bought land in Sussex County, Delaware in 1735 on the Indian River near the land of William Davidson II, and that he was thought to have been William II's brother. The same note says James died in 1744 leaving two children, William and Ann, and wife Mary Ayres Davidson Wharton, a widow who had a son Charles Wharton.
